Section 01Why move from MEGA to Google Drive?
MEGA's 20GB free tier and end-to-end encryption are genuinely compelling. But once your work touches Gmail, Docs, Sheets, or a team already living in Google Workspace, the friction adds up fast. Here's what usually tips the decision:

Connect MEGA and Google Drive
Both clouds need to be linked before a transfer task can exist.
- In the dashboard, click Link Drive.
- Pick MEGA from the provider list.
- Enter your MEGA email, password, and 2FA code if enabled.
- Confirm with Connect to MEGA.
- Repeat for Google Drive — this one uses OAuth, so no password touches RiceDrive.
Google Drive goes through OAuth. MEGA credentials are encrypted at rest, or you can pick the Local mode to keep them inside your browser session only.
Build the transfer task
This is the one screen that matters. Get it right once and the rest is waiting.
- Go to Cloud Transfer → Create Transfer.
- Source cloud: MEGA. Pick the files or folders to move.
- Target cloud: Google Drive. Choose a destination folder.
- Choose a mode:
- One-time — a straight migration.
- Scheduled — daily, weekly, or monthly runs for ongoing sync.
- Email notification — ping on completion.
- Hit Start up. That's the last click you need.
For anything north of 100GB, schedule the run for night hours. RiceDrive keeps working after you close the browser and shut the laptop.
Watch the progress (or don't)
The dashboard gives you the usual telemetry — percentage, file count, speed, ETA. What makes it different is where the work happens:

Read the result log and mop up failures
The task log uses a simple colour code:
- ● Green — clean run, everything landed.
- ● Yellow — partial success; click in for the file list.
- ● Red — the task failed outright; check the cloud connections.
Retrying only the failures
- Open Cloud Transfer → Task History.
- Find the task and click the Restart icon.
- RiceDrive re-queues only the files that failed — already-transferred files are skipped.
Section 02Hard limits worth knowing up front
Shared MEGA folders aren't directly transferable
Inbound shares from other MEGA accounts can't be picked up as a source. Copy them into your own drive first:
- Log in to mega.nz.
- Create a folder called something like To Transfer.
- Copy (not move) the shared items into it.
- Use that folder as the RiceDrive source.
Skipping this step is the single most common cause of corrupted or missing files after a migration.
Google Drive's 750GB/day upload ceiling
Every account is capped at 750GB of uploads per 24 hours. This isn't a RiceDrive limit — it applies to every tool that writes into Drive.
- Jobs larger than 750GB simply span multiple days.
- RiceDrive detects the cap and auto-pauses, then resumes the next day.
- Workaround for urgent bulk moves: split across multiple Google accounts, or land the overflow in another cloud.

Check your Google Drive quota before you start. Nothing is more annoying than a transfer that dies at 90% because the destination filled up.
